about the artist
Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Abi Warner is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges surrealism, futurism, nostalgia, and pop art. Working with everything from acrylic and watercolor to polymer clay, wire, UV resin, salvaged goods, and oddities, Abi creates pieces that are as eclectic and bold as her own lived experience.
Largely self-taught, Abi’s artistic journey is fueled by intuition, emotion, and an unfiltered connection to her inner child. She draws inspiration from icons like Van Gogh, Grant Wood, Andy Warhol, and Betsey Johnson—blending fine art influences with the chaotic joy of 70’s acid trip aesthetics. With a “dive in headfirst” approach, she rejects perfectionism and instead embraces spontaneity, play, and messiness as part of her creative process.
Her art is not only a celebration of color and form but also a vital outlet for coping with chronic and mental illnesses. Through every piece, Abi aims to convey the intensity of her emotions, stir memory, and share her experiences as a disabled artist.
Abi has live painted and vended at events like the Middle of the Map Tattoo Convention and local festivals such as Briar Patch Amphitheater and Middle of NOwhere. Her work spans beyond canvas, with a custom pendant featured on-air and online by LAZR Radio DJ Heather, and a mural in the Des Moines Skywalk. She is also published internationally as a hair and makeup artist and model.
While commission slots are limited due to her disabilities, Abi is always open to new collaborations and teaching opportunities. Whether you’re drawn to her vibrant jewelry, her surreal paintings, or her passion-fueled creations, every piece tells a story—and invites you into her world.
